Yashin Game Assets by AnthonyAvon Yashin Game Assets by AnthonyAvon
You may or may not know that I've been working on these character illustrations for a long time now, to be the main assets for the game "Yashin" designed by Matthew Rozzero (rozz1615.deviantart.com/)
The next stage is at least 16 landscape illustrations, but before I get into that, I'm submitting this collection to be criticized as a whole and individually. As my goal is to do the best possible job here, I would ask all of you who have the time and will, to write a few words about what you like and don't like about everything you see here. Pointing out the tiniest problems will help me spot them and of course fix them to ensure maximum quality. Have in mind that before this, character illustration was my biggest weakness and something that I haven't really done before on this scale. I've done my best but if doing something better is and option, I want to do it. All comments will be much appreciated and taken into consideration. Thank you!

I don't know the game, so I'll just add a little comment about  the pictures...I like in particular the third and fourth on the upper line. I think there is a particularly high level of integration between the characters and the environment. I think the impact of those two pictures is really strong!!! :D

All of your pictures look flat, to fix this, you need to add more value to them. Also, most of your hues are very saturated, tone it down and add a complimentary or triadic scheme to it to really bring out the shadows.  Also, every great artist has told me not to add your signature to it. I would probably take that out. What I would suggest is keep all your colors on one layer. Hide them, so you only have the line work in it. Go through it with a value pass and then add the color back into it as a multiply layer. It would bring your piece into the "finish"!

I don't really have the line work > color process but I'm working on establishing a single process that works for me every time for everything I do. And as for the flatness of the images, I really don't see that. It probably is a true statement but the problem is that I am not at the level where I can see it and fix it without being led step by step. It's a problem of a self thought artist. Fundamentally my images lack quality of the real professional work. But I'll keep this in mind when I make the final changes, and hopefully I'll push them a step higher. Thank you for the feedback!

I can try and show you what I mean. If you want, send me a picture of line work, and I'll show you how to add value to it. Step by step.

I mean I know how to do that, I just don't. I got used to a pretty messy process when I was a concept artist and that totally ruined me.

I know your mark is already on it, but maybe flip the ninja upside down? I think it shows what he is doing.. Rather than standing on a pole in a weird upside down world he is hanging upside down. Or was that intentional to be the same orientation? Also looking back and forth from the straw and outfits from the first and third, Are they in different places. One is green and the other golden. Or is one old straw grass as the other is more healthy wheat or different times of day and sunlight? Also, the mountains look kinda alike. I can kinda see the first one as a close-up and in the same aria but different angle as the 3rd. Was that intentional? And then for the ethereal demon, looks like he has rounded over areas where I think you might have wanted darker with shadows like the nose cavity to make it like sockets for the eyes to rest inside as if they were not flying around him all the time. I have more questions than answers, and I know it is just a card game. Who cares if it all lines up when it is just on a card you play in a single moment with all other cards disconnected from other cards. It is kinda why I'm not a fan of card games because you could put almost anything in a YuGiOh card from a demonic overlord to a cartoony chibi and have them fight each other degrading any lore that was put into. A devourer of worlds and epic god was taken down by a pink fluff ball. :P

Ninja is apparently hanging upside down with the intentional look of the viewer also hanging and seeing the city upside down. It's meant to stand out among other cards and soooo many ninja illustrations out there. With the soldiers I spent a lot of time on the background but with the villager I just wanted that color scheme, but it makes so much sense to make it apparent that the live around the same mountain range. I'll definitely do that. Oni has the eyes that always orbit around him. This game has my fantasy world as a backstory and he is the only supernatural character that will be in the game, but if we do well, the expansion will feature more of his kind and other fantasy beings. And before you even mentioned this, it's already in my lore that this supernatural being can't really overpower a human for example, being that they come from another dimension, and despite their power potential, they never disturb the balance. :D
